HK leader to meet press at 1530 GMT as protester deadline looms

October 2, 2014

Hong Kong’s embattled leader Leung Chun-ying is to hold a press conference half an hour before a protester deadline demanding his resignation expires, the city authorities said Thursday.

Chief Executive Leung will speak to the press at 11:30 pm (1530 GMT) alongside Chief Secretary Carrie Lam from Government House, a message relayed by the city’s Information Services Department stated.

Protesters have demanded both his resignation and that Beijing rescind its plan to vet his successor.
